Brian Gabrial is the former chair of Department of Journalism at Concordia University in Montreal and teaches both undergraduate and graduate courses, including a graduate-level foundations course in journalistic thought as well as undergraduate TV news and literary journalism courses. His book The Press and Slavery in America is now available from the University of South Carolina Press. Other research projects concern race and nationalism in the 19th-century press as well as literary journalism studies. He earned his M.A. and Ph.D. in Mass Communication from the University of Minnesota's School of Journalism and Mass Communication.
